Does Beeline work with my phone?
Beeline works well with the vast majority of smartphones on iOS and Android. Some Android phones can have issues with Bluetooth pairing, but we tend to find that flagship devices (e.g. Google Pixel or Samsung Galaxy S lines) work without a hitch.
We test Beeline on the following smartphones, to make sure that you can get out riding worry-free:
iPhone 5, 5c, 5s, SE, 6, 6S, 7, 8 and X
Google Pixel, Pixel 2, LG Nexus 5, LG Nexus 5X, Motorola Nexus 6, Samsung Galaxy S5, Motorola Moto G3*, One Plus 3*
(* In our testing these phones often have an unreliable connection to Beeline devices. We try to make sure Beeline works as well as it can with these phones but they are less reliable in our experience.)
Of course, we have very many Beeliners who are also happily cycling around with different phones. The key thing to check is that your phone meet's Beeline's compatibility requirements:
- data connection (required for setup, not while riding)
- Android 4.4 or higher with Google Play, iOS 9.2 or later
- Bluetooth Low Energy compatible (Bluetooth 4.0)
We can’t guarantee Beeline will work reliably with your phone even if it meets these requirements because hardware and software can be very different between different phones, but we do try to test Beeline on a broad range of phones. If you’re not sure, ask around on our community forum. Or give a Beeline a go with our 30-day free trial!
Does the app come with the device?
Does Beeline work worldwide?
The answer is Yes. Rule of thumb: if you can go there, you can Beeline there. Just pop in your destination and your waypoints and off you go. Beeline works worldwide except mainland China where we cannot guarantee functionality, owing to local regulation (we haven't tested it in North Korea).
If you would like more guidance, you may choose to use our Route Mode feature. Route Assistant integrates with suggested routes from our mapping provider and converts that into Beeline waypoints. Our mapping provider currently supports bicycle routes pretty much every country but if you happen to live in, or plan on visiting:
Ascension Island (British territory in the South Atlantic)
Bouvet Island (Norwegian island)
Clipperton Island (off the Mexican coast)
Cueta and Melilla (Spanish enclaves in Northern Morocco)
Diego Garcia (British/American military islands in the Indian Ocean)
Heard and McDonald Islands (uninhabited islands two-thirds of the way between Madagascar and Antarctica)
Tristan da Cunha (in the Ascension archipelago)
South Korea (the only country in the world that does not allow Google Maps)
U.S. Outlying Islands
you will have to rely on compass mode. The good news is that many of the islands are tiny, and uninhabited, so compass mode will probably be the best way to navigate unchartered terrain if you do happen to find yourself motorcycling mid-Atlantic.
Does Beeline work offline?
It does indeed! Beeline does need an internet or mobile data connection to plan routes or add favourite destinations but, once those are saved in your app, you bring them up again any time, anywhere.
Does Beeline always need to be connected to my phone?
Beeline does need to have a constant Bluetooth connection with your phone, so you'll need to keep your phone in your pocket or bag (within 5 metres of the Beeline) while you're out adventuring.
What mapping software does Beeline use?
Right now, our bicycling device integrates with Google Maps so that will most likely be the base map provider for all countries (unless we find something better in a specific country and integrate with that instead)!
We’re all about making sure that you have the best ride so we’re investigating lots of different mapping options and will be evaluating these over the next few months. Our aim will be to partner with the best mapping providers for each of the geographic region where we have the most users. Watch this space!
Can I design and/or load a route on to Beeline from a computer?
We're not currently working on a desktop route planner, but may well be able to look at doing this before long.
Beeline harnesses the capabilities of your smartphone (including piggy-backing on its GPS) to give you the best ride so you will need to use your smartphone to design and/or load a route.
If you still wish to use a computer to design your routes, you can always use pre-existing routing tools then export the GPX to your Beeline for now.
Can I use Beeline Moto while wearing gloves?
Yes. The cycling Beeline utilises a capacitive touchscreen, but motorcyclists wear thick gloves which renders the touchscreen difficult to use. Beeline Moto has been specifically designed with these considerations in mind and will have physical buttons.
How does Beeline work with complex crossings, roundabouts...?
In Route Mode, you get the combination of the big arrow to show you the direction to the next junction, and the indicator to tell you the direction to leave the next junction. Whilst junctions can be complex these two pieces of info are almost always sufficient. We are focusing on two key development areas: the ability of the device to keep up with where you are instantaneously, and situations when there's a very narrow fork and the direction is not clear on which one to take. We'll have solutions for both of these when we ship in February 2019.
Will Beeline Moto work with standard navigation programs like Waze or Google Nav?
Beeline uses its own navigation app powered by Google maps and does not integrate with Waze at the moment.
We’re all about making sure that you have the best ride so we’re consistently investigating lots of different mapping options. Our aim is to partner with the best mapping providers for each of the geographic region where we have the most users so do let us know what integrations you'd like us to consider and we can investigate.
Will Beeline Moto allow me to select winding roads?
Beeline comes into its own when it comes to building your custom routes. Simply tap on the map to set waypoints on exactly the roads you want to ride down, so you're in complete control when it comes to hunting winding roads down.
Does it support audio guidance?
Beeline Moto is all about un-intrusive motorcycle navigation - it’s there when you need it but will leave you free to enjoy the ride when you don’t. For that reason, we don’t have any plans to incorporate audio.
Will it work on my bicycle?
The Beeline Moto will indeed work for cycling. Depending on which mount you choose it should also fit a road bike, but you can also buy silicone straps for our cycling device separately if you wanted to have one of those for your road bike.
