GPX IMPORT - 25 WAY POINTS LIMIT

I agree and if you want to use one of the readily available fox bike routes, the point count needs to be increased to around 100-150 min I’d say.

Correct, only 25 way points is very limiting.  It makes this amazing device useless.

Hey everyone, thanks for the comments! Just re-posting this from another thread on the same topic :).

We've been looking into this and are continuing to work on some workarounds.

We integrate with Google Maps and Map Box, both of which have 23 waypoint (+ origin + destination) limits. Unfortunately the limit isn't set by us - it's just something that we have to deal with (like everyone else)!

This article is a bit text heavy: https://developers.google.com/maps/documentation/directions/intro but you can see one part of it which reads:

We're trying to figure out what we can do to deal with this and will get in touch with everyone as soon as we've got anything figured out :)

Luckily I read this post before I'd buy the device. This limitation will stop me from buying this great device. A realistic number of waypoints is 100, less won't be sufficient for turn by turn navigation.

Can this device handle importing a GPX track? This only gets the start and end point but the viapoints are several thousand little dots. Using a track does not offer turn by turn support, you just follow the line. A bit similar as compass navigation.

Indeed very disappointed with the limitation. A one hour route has hundreds of points. Useless

Hey Ludo and Geert, the GPX fix is very nearly ready to release! We'll email you all in the Weekend Warmup (or in a post shipping update) to let you know as soon as it is in the app :). We know that it is not good enough now and we're working as quickly as we can to fix it. Cheers, Kate

Maybee this helps. Most GPX files are containing a section with waypoints and a section with track points. Typically the number of waypoints is much smaller than the number of track points. If Beeline is using a Google Maps function to derive the route, it makes no sense to use the track points as input for this function. In my opinion it would be better to use the waypoints from the GPX file as Input for the Google Maps Routing function. If someone would like to use the track points from the GPX file, he could use the Compass Mode.

    Regards
    Rolf

Hi, I was not aware of this limit before I bought the beeline on kickstarter, I just painfully noticed it when I tried to plan my upcoming tour in France. Obviously, the import failed. I am very disappointed, I just sold my TomTom Rider on eBay (which was crap due to other reasons) and put all my cards on the beeline. The limit of 25 waypoints renders the device useless. Please help.... I don’t want to dig out my old rider again for that tour....

Michael, I’ve been asking for ages but they don’t seem to be interested sadly.
It is pretty useless without the ability to import more than 25 points.

I do not believe this will or can be resolved as this is a hard stop imposed by Google (Maps). Other navigation apps changed or based themselves on other map providers to get around this issue. Luckily I discovered this limitation before buying the device.

.....yeah, I am losing faith as well, sadly.

I am so disappointed, the device itself is a good idea, but if you can only use it to get from A to B, it is pretty much useless on a motorbike, I can do that without a gps device, really.

The real fun in biking is to go touring and for that you need to have the ability to import routes with more than 25 waypoints. I would have never bought the beeline if I had known before.

Beeline Team, please come up with a solution, one way or the other. I have not left any reviews in any forums yet, but I will surely do so soon.

I agree with Geert. Maybe that would be a better strategy moving now to openmaps or so. As I understand the Google Maps providers want understandably earn money. I do use my beeline and I must say even with the limitations it is a good usable product. I hope the developers will make a change to open systems. Fits also better to the start-up identity no going with the data kraken of google....

I am back from my trip in Italy, 3 weeks and 2500 kms
3 encounters with the police as the beemoto uses i dont know what maps from google. It kept sending me into streets where it is forbidden to drive.
Comparing the routes between beemoto and google maps shows totally different routes.
I made it and would never have made it without the beeline but i had several moments where i turned it of. Kept driving out of a town for 15 minutes before turning it on again. Steam coning out of my ears.
One time i ended up in the the No Go area of Naples following the beemoto.
I had a few times when turning it of and the thing asking me “ are you done?” That i thought lets just smash it to pieces before you die

Ludo, that is really worrying, getting directed into forbidden directions/streets. I was in Naples before with a GPS which was difficult enough.

.....that kind of stuff happened with the latest TomTom Rider 550 as well, so not only with beeline.

When I was in Konstanz a few months back, it kept directing me into one-way streets....but from the wrong end. And their ‘thrilling routes’ feature constantly sent me onto unpaved paths in the woods (unpaved roads was set to ‘avoid’ in the settings). I sold the rider on eBay recently, I hope the beeline will not go the same way

I guess no map provider has the most accurate maps to date, considering how fast the roads and regulations are changing. I would be ok with the occasional issue if it wasn’t for the 25 waypoint flaw, to be honest.

Beeline Team, your silence is getting very heavy now, please reply to your customers !

    Hey everyone,

Sorry, haven't meant to be silent! I have been a bit overwhelmed the last few months and haven't had the time to spend on the forum that I would have liked to. Should be getting a lot better soon :).

Please keep the faith. We do have a fix (it involves chopping up a GPX file with lots of waypoints and then threading them back together once they are past the Google Maps blocker). It is looking good so far but we haven't released it just yet because we want to do some final testing before we release it to you all on beta. The testing is a big priority but we have a tiny tech team right now (just three people) so we have been slowed down a bit by urgent bug fixes etc. Everyone is working at absolute capacity (and we will hire more people as soon as we are able), and we will get there soon, but just want to give you all the whole picture.

I'll do my best to keep a better eye on this thread but please remember that we are also available at support@beeline.co if you have any specific questions :).

Thanks again for your support and for your encouragement to make improvements - I am very excited about the app updates that we will be able to make together over the coming moths and years.

    Cheers,

    Kate

One more things is this: i am from the Netherlands. In this country we maybe have 3 very small locations where there is no internet reception. But in Germany France Italy there ate many places where there is sero reception. As my phone is tucked away i have no idea if i have reception or not. Could that also be a reason ?
